This game was the beginning of a new era for both teams. Hightower, having graduated several senior guards and accepting multiple incoming transfers, while Marshall would be without the services of Jaland Lowe for the first time in a couple of years. I was very interested to see how everyone would play in their new respective roles. The game started out very sloppy. Both teams had problems with foul trouble and turnovers. ℅ 2025 W Kevin Sargeant was a junkyard dog. His energy and motor, on both the offensive and defensive end, single-handedly carried the Buffaloes. Not to be outdone, one of the best-kept secrets in the class of 2025, G Jarek Sasser put on quite a point guard show for Hightower. He controlled the game with his passes and great decision-making. Unsigned senior W Milton Rice would have the highlight of the first half with a potential dunk of the year. ℅ 2025 G Eian Lowe would also be a steady hand at the point guard position for Marshall. After a physical first half, Hightower would go into the break with a 27-26 lead.

Coming out of halftime, Hightower decided to ramp up the defensive intensity. ℅ 2025 G Mikey Burgess was a pleasant surprise. He hounded Marshall’s guards full court, playing smart and aggressive defense. After a timeout, Marshall’s guards (especially Lowe) adjusted to the physicality. Lowe didn’t shy away from contact, made smart decisions, and played with a feel for the game that I had never seen from him. I believe that was the turning point for the game. Hightower couldn’t get anything to fall from the field. Sasser was still playing a good floor game, but he would be the lone bright spot for the Hurricanes in the second half. Every time Hightower chipped away at the lead, Sergeant would get a big defensive play or make a basket. After a couple of Eian Lowe free throws, Marshall would secure its second victory of the season 54-47.
