Marshall's Legendary Night

Review's with Rob C | Fulshear vs Fort Bend Marshall

On a potentially record-setting night, the 23-3 (6-0 in district) Marshall Buffalos took on the 14-12 (6-0 in district) Fulshear Chargers. Not only would this be a battle for first place in the district, but Pittsburg commit G Jaland Lowe could possibly score his 2000th point and legendary coach Ronnie Courtney could possibly get his 700th victory. Fulshear came out determined not to let any of these things happen. They were flying around on defense and threw as many as three defenders at once against Lowe. Unsigned senior W Dylan Garner would be the catalyst for Coach Cunningham’s defensive game plan. He also knocked down a couple of perimeter jumpers that would keep the Chargers close. Lowe would start out at a nice pace, not forcing anything, and looking to make the right pass. He threw a couple of nice dimes that wouldn’t get converted but that did not stop him from playing the right way. After a couple of minutes, he found his groove and started scoring on an array of tough layups and mid-range jumpers. He would end the first half with 12 points. Marshall would take a 31-24 lead into halftime.

The third quarter opened up with Dylan Garner coming out and putting the team on his back. He hit his first three shots and it looked as if the Chargers would play spoiler on this night. ℅ 2025 W Toby Princewill didn’t score much but was a monster on the defensive end. He definitely played bigger than his height and finished the game with 6 blocks. He’s absolutely a kid that you want to keep an eye out for. ℅ 2025 P Grayson Bennett also came up big on the defensive end with 5 blocks. After all the dust was settled, this night would belong to the Buffalos and their star player. He would go on to break the 2,000-point barrier and have the game stopped in the middle of the third quarter to commemorate the moment. ℅ 2024 W Chris Catchings would also join in on the act of scoring after a slow first half. He would finish the second half with 10 points, 2 blocks, and 3 steals. Unsigned senior W Jaylen Reedus would also contribute 9 points and 2 steals. Marshall would use all of this to close the door on any potential Fulshear comeback and would go on to win 73-51, giving Coach Courtney his illustrious 700th victory.
