Mavericks Start District with a Win!

Reviews with Rob | Pasadena Memorial vs Dobie

Tonight would mark the district opener for both Pasadena Memorial (11-5) and Dobie (10-7). It would be a major contrast in styles, as Pasadena Memorial would look to go inside to LSU commit Robert Miller and Dobie would look to fire away from the outside with its unsigned senior guard duo of Dylan Jackson and Julio Cisneros. From the opening tip, the action was fast paced. ℅ 2025 G Chris Jones would make a flurry of tough midrange shots. After Dobie’s defense adjusted, the Mavericks started to go down low to Miller. He dominated in every way, with multiple rim rocking dunks, a couple of chase down blocks and timely outlet passes. Dobie would start to bomb away from the perimeter. Jackson would begin to show why he’s one of the area’s top tough shot makers. He would finish the first half with 15 points and Cisneros, not to be outdone, would finish the half with 10 points. After their valiant shooting performance, Dobie would lead the first half by a score of 33-28.

You could tell that Coach Olivier made a concerted effort to slow down Dobie’s guards. Unsigned senior G Gary Brown would be one of the main catalysts in this defense effort. He was what you would call an unsung hero because he also added 7 points to go along with his smothering defense. Unsigned senior G Malachi Hobbs would give Dobie a spark. He would make play after play to keep the Longhorns nipping at the Maverick’s heels. It was a back and forth affair until multiple highlight plays created by Jones and Miller would change the momentum for good. Pasadena Memorial would close out the game by a final of 69-52, which would be one of the best on campus games I have witnessed this season.

Pasadena Memorial was led by: Robert Miller with 28 points, 20 rebounds, 8 blocks, 7 assists; Chris Jones with 22 points, 2 steals; Gary Brown with 14 points, 5 assists

Dobie was led by: Dylan Jackson with 19 points, 9 rebounds; Julio Cisneros  with 13 points, 7 rebounds; Malachi Hobbs with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals
