In a matchup of two of the better private school teams in the state of Texas, St. John’s hosted Houston Christian in a matchup that would have huge playoff ramifications. Once again, as had been the case for the entire week, the crowd was electric. St. John’s came out on fire from the perimeter. ℅ 2027 W Malachi Booker was dialed in from long range. He hit his first three perimeter shots in a row and had the crowd in a frenzy. ℅ 2025 W, nationally ranked prospect, Sebastian Williams-Adams was his usual “freight train with no breaks” self. He had multiple defenders trying to stop him and he was still getting it done. After a timeout, Houston Christian came back, settled down, and started to chip away at St. John’s lead. Led by Texas A&M Commerce commit Chris Adlam, who displayed his ability to hit some tough shots. ℅ 2025 W DA Rainey’s timely putbacks and hustle, Houston Christian was able to end the first half only down by 3 (36-33).

Houston Christian picked up the pace in the second half. ℅ 2025 G Montana Wheeler showed why he’s one of the most talked about guards in the city, regardless of class. He put on a heroic effort, not only with his scoring (he had 18 points in the second half alone), but also with his decision-making (he had 6 assists in the second half) and his activity on the defensive end. The University of Chicago commit Carter Seeliger was also huge in the second half with his timely three-point shooting, big offensive rebounds, and overall energy. Williams-Adams would put St. John’s on his back and try to will them to a win. With the defense keying in on Booker on the perimeter, Williams-Adams would put his head down and play bully ball to get to the rim. He would finish with 20 points in the second half, unfortunately, even that wouldn’t be enough. With DA Rainey going 8-10 from the free throw line in the second half, Houston Christian would pull out an 84-74 victory that would leave them as one of only two undefeated teams in the district.
