On The Move

School is officially underway in every district throughout Greater Houston. We wish everyone the best this upcoming basketball season. There has been a lot of movement throughout the summer and even within this month of August. I’m sure there may be some more moves that take place after this article is released. The transfer portal is not only an NCAA and AAU thing. It also affects the High School level as well. This is just a peek inside the Greater Houston High School transfer portal.

This year we have 20 seniors (2024), 16 juniors (2025), and 8 sophomores (2026). That is a total of 44 players either leaving the area or just switching schools locally. This list does not include any incoming freshmen in the area. All stats that are used are from MaxPreps, OTE, NPH, LNP, and the SWAIC websites.

Going Out of the Area

Jaecoby Osborne 6’6” Small Forward | Bella Vista (AZ) 2024

Coby was at Fort Bend Elkins last season. He was a consensus Top 20 prospect in Greater Houston. He helped the Knights go 19-11 last season and was the team leader as a junior in these statistical categories 14.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game.

Luke Coughran 6’2” Shooting Guard | Dream City Christian (AZ) 2024

Luke was one of the top shooters in the entire country as far as three-point baskets last season. He hit 159 trey balls, was tied for fifth in the country, and was second in the state. He shot 36% from beyond the arc and also broke the school record for most trey balls (9) made in a game as well as a school record for most points scored (42) points in which he scored that amount twice last season finishing the season with a 25.1 points per game average. Tompkins went 22-14 last year.

Michael Oaks 6’11” Center | SoCal Prep (CA) 2024

Oaks was the biggest stock riser during the season. It all started ironically at the Ball So Hard Prospect EXPO. When we got to see Michael in a different light. He was a huge success in his team's success this past season at St. Thomas Catholic. The Eagles went 26-3 last year and Mike averaged 7.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game. His recruitment took off this past summer where he picked up a couple of offers.

Calvin Murphy 6’0” Point Guard | Dream City Christian (AZ) 2025

Calvin was huge for the Jack Yates Lions last season as they went 17-8 on the season. He is a speedy guard with a good feel for the game. He likes to drop dimes on the floor as well as look to score the ball. His first-round playoff performance last season was truly a statement-setter. He had a solid summer with LivOn playing Nike Elite 16’s where he picked up a couple of offers.

Christian Jones 5’11” Point Guard | BFL Prep (WA) 2025

Christian started off at Mayde Creek last year and then transferred to PSAT Academy where he finished out his high school season last year as they went 19-8. He is another shifty guard who is crafty at getting to the rim. He plays with multiple speeds and can set up his teammates. Had a good summer with JL3 Elite who went on to win the USA Basketball Championships at the NCAA Basketball Academy.

Coming in from Out the State

Jakeel Registe 6’5” Small Forward | Episcopal 2024

Jakeel is coming back home to finish off his senior campaign and graduate with some of his friends. He began last season at Our Savior Lutheran (Bronx, NY) and then played in OTE (Overtime Elite) with the Falcons where he played in 15 games and averaged 7.2 points. When he was at Episcopal in the 2021/2022 season they went on to win the SPC State Title. Now that he is back can he help bring another title back for the Knights?

Christian Thomas 6’7” Small Forward | C.E. King 2025

Last year Christian attended The SEED School of Maryland which is based out of Baltimore, MD. He played summer ball with Team Thrill UAA and was ranked 18th in the state according to Prep Hoops Maryland. He made his debut in TABC this past June and walked away with 4 NCAA D1 offers, giving him a total of 5. Has a good handle on the ball and likes to play above the rim.

LeAno Rolle 6’6” Small Forward | Legacy School of Sports Science 2024

LeAno hails from Florida, where he went to North Florida Educational Institute as they went 22-9 on the season and went to the State Semi-Final game last year in Florida’s 2A class. Jacob Smithey 6’4” Shooting Guard | Legacy School of Sports Science 2025

Last year he was at Chandler High School out in Oklahoma. They went 15-11 overall last year. Jacob is a good shooter from the perimeter and has the athleticism to finish above the rim. He will be a really good addition to the Titans this season.

Bradley Kouassi 7’1” Center | Kashmere 2024

This prospect hails from France. His French club team that he played for was “Nantes Basket Hermine” on the U21 squad in the LNB Pro B - U21 League. The team went 10-8 on the season and the 18 year old Kouassi averaged 1.9 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. Remember that a lot of EURO basketball does not have High School Sports in any capacity, it is all Pro League based on a farm league system sort of like the MLB. He would’ve been playing on the G-League second tier if we had such a thing in America.

Kal-El McNeilly 6’7” Shooting Guard | PSAT Academy 2025

He played with JooKoo Sports Academy in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada. He played in the North Pole Hoops League in Canada where he averaged 8.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. He is a downhill guard who loves to attack the rim and finishes at a high percentage when he gets into the paint.

Jordan Williams 6’2” Point Guard | PSAT Academy 2025

Jordan comes from Michigan. He went to John Gleen High School in Westland, MI. The team went 7-13 and played in the highest classification within the state. He was originally in the class of 2024 and is now reclassified to the 2025 classification.

Carlos Odaje 6’2” Point Guard | Legacy School of Sports Science 2026

He was also at North Florida Educational Institute last season. He averaged 3.3 points per game as a freshman on varsity last season in 11 games played at 5.1 minutes per game. Interested to see what this prospect brings to the table.

Here is a list of the TOP 6 prospects per class that are moving locally within Greater Houston.

2024

Trent Burns 7’1” Center | Good Vision Academy

The tallest prospect for sure. Last season he was with PSAT Academy. He has garnered over a dozen offers. He continues to improve year after year. I'm excited to see what he does for his senior campaign. Last year he averaged 10.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.3 blocks per game, and shot 33% from three-point land.

Jaden Williams 6’1” Guard | Hightower

Jaden has transferred into Fort Bend Hightower High School from Barbers Hill High School. He got to showcase more of his game playing with the Houston Hoops this summer. He showed that he is a really good shooter and a solid on-ball defender.

Raken Vargas 6’1” Point Guard | Empowering Others Prep

Gotta be one of the Top 5 true floor generals in the Greater Houston area regardless of class and he’s not number 5. He was at Concordia Lutheran High School last season. This year he steps more into a scoring role as he will have to put the Kings on his back in a lot of games this season.

Aidean “D.A.” Rainey 6’5” Small Forward | Houston Christian

D.A. is probably one of the biggest sleepers in this 2025 class. With his transfer into Houston Christian High School look for him to be a big piece early on. He can guard 1-4 on the court and offensively he keeps getting better and better. He is transferring in from Katy Taylor High School.

2026

Christian Gibson 6’4” Shooting Guard | Mayde Creek

Christian was Newcomer of the Year last season in 6A III-17. This season he moves over from Spring Woods High School to Katy Mayde Creek High School as his dad serves in the capacity of Head Coach. He is one of the top prospects in his class and his addition will be greatly appreciated. He led the team in scoring as a freshman last year with a 16.8 points-per-game average.

Landon Veal 6’7” Forward | Cypress Springs

Landon is transferring back to his home school Cypress Springs High School. Last season he was at Cypress Park High School, and due to being on a transfer within the CFISD district, he couldn’t play Varsity basketball for a calendar school year. Landon is considered to be in the Top 10 range consensually. He will add rebounding and an inside/out presence defensively for the Panthers this season.

Byron Bibbs 6’3” Guard | Pearland

Byron was a standout on the freshman squad last season at Summer Creek High School. He played varsity with Summer Creek during this summer and looked good, unfortunately, his family moved and he will now be attending Pearland High School. He had a really good summer also with Texas Takeover 15U. Considered to be one of the Top 20 prospects within his class.

Byron “BJ” Green Jr. 5’10” Point Guard | Manvel

BJ was a varsity starter last season for St. Thomas Episcopal, a TAPPS 4A affiliate. He was named to the All-District 1st team last year as a freshman for TAPPS 4A District 4. They went 30-8 and made it to the State Championship game. The quick guard will be playing for Manvel High School this year and should make a big impact from game one.

Last season Langston played for Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School in Beaumont, TX. They posted a 10-25 record last season. He averaged 19.2 points, 2.9 steals, and 2.3 assists per game on the season. He shot 30% from three-point land. He was named All-District 2nd team in TAPPS 5A District 5.
