The class of 2025 participated in their final Rucker On Wood. There were a lot of first-time attendees in this class, and there was just a handful of players who had been here all four years. It was held on the campus of the University of St.Thomas. It featured college coaches from North Carolina, Arkansas, and local colleges like Lee College and the UST staff. I can tell you that a couple of players walked away with something they didn’t come with, and that was a scholarship. It was 82 senior hoopers from the Greater Houston Area and 19 of those players are ranked in our Top 80 for the Class of 2025. The Rucker On Wood is an open gym pick-up setting. Some kids thrive better than others in this less structured environment, while others play better in a systemic setting. We will only be highlighting six players who we have seen on court two for more than one game. These players weren’t playing dirty either but actually hooping.

Jaxon Woods BSH80

6’2” Barbers Hill

Jaxon was getting to it. He was a scoring machine for his team. He is a quick guard that was hard for his opponent to keep in front of them. He has a high motor and played with one speed the entire event.

Raken Vargas BSH80

6’1” Empowering Others Prep

Raken got the opportunity to play as a scorer in this event. He utilized his skill set to get buckets. He even was trying to put people in the rim. It was good to see him using his athletic ability around the rim.

Damond Matthews BSH80

6’3” Summer Creek

Damond also known as DJ, or [Da-Mood] as the announcer was calling him, was my MVP of the weekend. He displayed his athleticism on the court on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. He made some tough jumpers. Finished above the rim every chance he got. Guarded anyone on the floor and caused havoc.

Eian Lowe BSH80

5’8” Fort Bend Marshall

Eian is a very scrappy on-ball defender. He has a very quick first step and is a crafty finisher around the rim. His energy on the floor was amazing. He scored on every level of the floor.

Mathias Baye BSH80

7’0” Marian Academy

Mathias played well by keeping true to what he did. He rim ran. He always kept the floor balanced with spacing switching high post to low post and popping out to the perimeter. He was good in the pick-n-roll. He was a force as an interior defender. His teammates were looking him off and not trying to utilize him but he still continued to play defense.

Jordan Buckner BSH80

6’0” South Houston

Jordan displayed his full package on both ends of the floor. Offensively he was hitting really deep trey balls, getting to the cup, knocking down the middy, and getting his teammates involved in the game. Defensively he applied pressure and was forcing turnovers. His film dosen’t do any type of justice because people were standing in front of me for a whole game.
