#ROW24 | 2028 Takeaways

Rucker on Wood Takeaways from the 2028 class.

The graduating class of 2028 participated in their first Rucker On Wood. The Rucker On Wood is an RCS Sports event that played host to 85 incoming freshman basketball players from around the Greater Houston Area. The Rucker On Wood is an open gym pick-up setting. Some kids thrive better than others in a less structured environment, while others play better in a systemic setting. We already know of a couple of these incoming freshmen but we are looking forward to finding some possible hidden gems. That we can closely follow throughout their high school career. It was a lot of players who had big moments but these are the players who stood out the most to me.

Joshua Augmon

6’5” Cypress Park

Josh was very dominant the entire event. He knocked down perimeter shots. He was able to get to the rim, where he finished through contact. If we were giving out awards like most camps he would have been our MVP of the event. I am excited to watch him on varsity with Cypress Park High School this upcoming season.

Ephriam Moore

6’8” Beaumont United

EJ is a force to be reckoned with. You could tell that most of these players haven’t played with a true big before. When he did get touches it was a bucket in the paint. He also cleaned the house on the glass, especially on the offensive end of the floor. Ephriam will be a varsity starter for Beaumont United.

Peter Dorsey

6’3” Wheatley

Peter was a load in the paint on the offensive side of the ball. He used his strength to gain positioning and won every battle in the post. He displayed good hands and finished well through contact and over taller opponents.

Anthony Key

6’6” Atascocita

Key was big in the interior on the defensive side of the ball. He displayed his ability to play a little from the perimeter. Very active on the floor and is a rim runner. He will play varsity for Atascocita at some point this upcoming season, and be a rotation piece by the playoffs.

Eric Ekwegbura

6’5” Heights

Eric played well. When he gets going downhill you better watch out for this freight train coming through the lane. He also likes to play above the rim. Defensively he can guard multiple positions. He will be big for Houston Heights High School.

Finlay Rosener

5’11” Seven Lakes

Finlay was always just in the right places at the right time. He was very active on the court and was the only player who was making cuts without the ball in his hands. Out of all the sub-6-foot guards, he was the only one finishing at a very high rate around the rim.

Markel Morrow

5'8" Heights

Markel is a very smart floor general. He hit big-time jumpers and made the right plays on the floor. He wasn’t focused on trying to get buckets. He is super tough as an on-ball defender. His ability to get others involved opened the floor for him to be able to score when it presented itself.

Kendric Mitchell

5'10" C.E. King

Kendric is a speedy guard who has some shiftiness in his play. He got some really good paint touches. His first step allowed him to score at the rim and also find open teammates. He has quick hands defensively and utilizes his lateral quickness to keep opponents in front of him.
